Sony has recently introduced its newest addition to its noted camcorder line. And it appears that folks at Sony have not forgotten the little people.
Sony's high(er)-end, GPS-capable camcorders - the HDR-XR520V and HDR-XR500V are a bit pricey for common mortals. Fortunately Sony came up with the HDR-XR100, which, though bereft of Sony's new Navteq map-based GPS feature, has 80GB HDD and can still record 1920 x 1080 full-HD.
The downside though, is that the HDR-XR100 can only capture up to 4-megapixel sized images, where as the HDR-XR520V and HDR-XR500V have interpolated 12-megapixel resolution.
Still, the HDR-XR100 comes equipped with Optical Steady Shit image stabilization, as well as Smile Shutter and Face Detection capabilities, 10x optical zoom, and of course the standard LCD touch screen. It also has a USB slot so you can easily connect to your PC and features Sony's Picture Motion Browser for you to easily transfer, sort and browse through your videos and still images.
A couple of things that Sony could have improved on though, are the lack of mic jack - though it does feature a Dolby Digital 5.1 channel recording with built-in zoom mic - and the protruding battery. But aside from these two, Sony's HDR-XR100 HD camcorder is a fairly handy camcorder, and an affordable one at that.
